石榴在動物實驗中可改善精子的品質。

石榴在公老鼠實驗證實中可改善精子的品質。抗氧化重要的原因是精子的成熟與形成需要高濃度的多元不飽和脂肪酸，特別容易受到氧化的影響。石榴的抗氧化能力一半來自於其中的成份 punicalagin。石榴可以減少氧化壓力標記 malondialdehyde及 增加抗氧化劑 glutathione 及維他命C 及抗氧化酵素 glutathione peroxidase and catalase

紅酒中的成份白藜蘆醇(Resveratrol)，也有類似的效果，可以增加精子的數量。
